We offer a wide range of activities in Austin. Here is a brief description of our ongoing events.
ZHIKR: Zhikr is a weekly event. We gather as a group, talk, and share anecdotes about our spiritual
walking. There is usually a teaching or reading, and sometimes group recitation. All of that lasts no more
than an hour and is followed by the Zhikr, a standing practice where we chant together.
Zhikr is a great place to get aquainted with our group, meet new folks, and learn about Sufism.
SUFI LIGHT: Sufi Light is an ongoing free class offering Sufi practices and support in an
environment well-suited for beginners. It is a great place to share stories, learn more about Sufism,
and get aquainted with other folks.
INTRODUCTION TO THE AUSTIN SUFI CENTER: Taught once a month, this is the ideal class for a newcomer
wanting to learn more about the Austin Sufi Center. Our teachings and practices are explained, we do some experiential practices
to feel the layers of the heart, and an introduction is given to ways of participating in the Austin
community. To attend the next one and find out more about us please call (512) 306-1438.
JUMA (Friday Prayer): Juma is the traditional Islamic Friday service. We pray together,
listen to a teaching from the heart, and after for those who wish we sit around and talk for a while.
This happens on Friday beginning at 1pm and lasts about 1 to 1.5 hours.
HEALING CIRCLE and RECEIVE A HEALING: Some of our beloveds like to offer
opportunities to pray for healing or to receive a spiritual healing experience. These usually
occur on Sunday afternoons before a Zhikr.
OTHER EVENTS: In addition to the above, we have many other classes on
a variety of topics which meet from time to time. Please keep an eye on our schedule. We also have
potlucks, community meetings, and weekend workshops featuring local and visiting teachers.
THE YEARLY SUFI SCHOOL: Every year in August, we offer the opportunity to spend 4-5 days
with our spiritual Guide Sidi al-Jamal. Classes are held all day at a dedicated site, with meals
catered and a children's care program to keep the little ones busy. The week ends with an all-night
vigil led by Sidi. Many other prominent teachers from around the country also come to teach this week.
